So you have all of this training for your company, what’s next?

The FedEx Kinko’s Career Development Program (CDP) is a position-based, modular training program that utilizes a blended learning approach of instructor-led classes, Web-based training, job aids and other references, shadowing and on-the-job training. Launched in April 2006 and serving 18,000 field team members, the CDP has been a huge success. With over 14,000 participants, it has led to upward and lateral promotions, contributed to lowering attrition and provided new career opportunities for FedEx Kinko’s team members. In addition to being named the FedEx Kinko’s Program of the Year and Team Member Advocacy award winners in 2006, the CDP has received an ASTD Excellence in Practice Citation in the career development category, which will be presented later this year during the ASTD International Conference & Expo held in Atlanta, GA.

One Size Does Not Fit All: Case Studies From Deloitte Member Firms

(Best Practices)

In October of last year Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (DTT) conducted a series of interviews among member firms that had been identified as leaders in the usage of e-learning, in order to share e-learning best practices.

The interviews focused on program structure and implementation processes. Participants were encouraged to discuss challenges encountered during the implementation and make recommendations on best practices that could be shared with other member firms. The frank replies enabled an objective analysis of these e-learning implementations.

This presentation explores the specific conclusions from this project in detail.

Building a Business Case to Leverage Existing Spend and Reduce ILT Redundancies

(Alumni Session)

Join us to understand how you can be a hero by presenting a business case that reduces your instructor led training vendor redundancies and optimizes your e-learning investment for technical audiences. This formula for success gives you the opportunity to consolidate the ways that business units acquire and pay for external, instruction led IT training.

In this workshop we will build a business case for a technical Solution Service's model. In doing so we will ask:

  • How much of our external training is redundant?
  • What is the cost of this redundancy?
  • What are some ways for us to leverage our existing partnership with SkillSoft?
We will explore:
  • The costs of a full-time employee (FTE) versus a virtual program manager
  • The costs/advantages of collecting metrics and reports
  • The administrative costs associated with training
  • Variable cost versus overhead costs

Hershey's K.I.S.S. Satisfies Hunger for e-Learning:
Strategy Process for e-Learning

At the start of our 2006 fiscal year we were charged with increasing e-learning usage or risking the loss of allocated training dollars. We met with learning leaders across the organization and using the K.I.S.S. (Knowledge and Insights for Strategic Success) process we formulated an action plan for enhancing our e-learning program. As a result we have increased usage up to 140%, all e-learning courses are now linked directly to business needs, and a strategy is in place to raise the bar again in 2007. This session will include information about how Hershey accomplished these goals.

Hannaford Supermarkets Delivers Learning Solutions

With more than 120 years in the supermarket business, Hannaford has 158 supermarkets and combination food and drug stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont. Prior to deployment of SkillSoft’s e-learning solution, employees had to travel to training facilities to attend seminars.

One hundred seventy-five Hannaford store and department managers, with a mix of backgrounds, participated in a pilot of the e-learning initiative. Based on the success of the initial phase of the program, Hannaford rolled out its next phase of learning content to 160 associate relations managers. This phase included leadership development and communication skills. At the end of 2006, Hannaford had enough support and interest in their e-learning program called "Learning Solutions," they doubled the amount of user licenses for 2007.

Omnicare Clinical Research uses SkillSoft to help transform the Company Culture

When Dale Evans first became the CEO of Omnicare Clinical Research (OCR) in October 2005, he brought an exciting new vision and strategy to the company. In order to turn his vision into reality, he knew that he needed to change the culture of the organization to be much more customer centric with an emphasis on service excellence. The challenge was significant; OCR employees are located around the world with more than 60% located in many small regional offices or home offices. After just four short weeks, over 95% of the employee base had successfully completed all of the initial coursework, which covered over six hours of course material accompanied by extensive tests to confirm understanding. The feedback was very positive and OCR was on their way to changing their culture.

From Nothing to Something: Growing a Management Program from Scratch

With the integration of several small companies, Hyperion Solutions was a 25-year old company with no management training and little compliance training. Although 70% of managers were promoted from within, the major turnover factor was the old, “People don’t leave companies. They leave managers.” Hyperion built a worldwide management curriculum and was in the progress of implementing that and a leadership academy when it was acquired by Oracle. See how we built a program that would fit a small to medium business.

IRI Embraces e-learning to Increase Clients’ Time-to-Value

IRI relied entirely on instructors to train its new and existing clients on its products and services. This method was costly and did not provide ongoing access to information and other resources outside the classroom. In response to the clients’ need for learning on demand, IRI developed a series of custom e-learning courses that deliver company specific information and used a Web-based training model to meet its clients’ need for speed, access and convenience. The success story is two-fold by the way in which IRI delivered training as never before and the way in which it transformed the training department from a cost center to a revenue generating business.

Bricks Versus Clicks: New Challenges for the eLearning Proposition

From 2000 - 2004, Deloitte's Global Consulting Group experienced a huge upswing in the use of e-learning as an integral component of its learning strategy. e-Learning volumes skyrocketed as entire curricula were converted from a traditional classroom environment to a totally e-based platform.

With recently booming economic growth, however, and a newly demanding generation of practitioners, new challenges to our e-learning culture have begun to surface. Successful classroom simulations and a new appreciation for the value of networking opportunities in building and retaining talent are causing resurgence in the demand for classroom-based learning programs, and a wane in interest in providing similar content in an e-learning format.

Join Candy Haynes and Katie Coates in a discussion of the trends they see in their learning environment at Deloitte; their strategies for overcoming these new challenges; and share your experiences/insight on building creative approaches to overcoming these new areas of resistance.

Beyond the Platform: Freeing the Learner from the LMS

Traditionally, most organizations have focused their learning delivery on the LMS. Today, many organizations are realizing that the best way to ensure employees get the learning they need at the time of need is to embed the learning into their daily workflow. This often means making learning available within the applications that employees use on a daily basis, rather than expecting them to find learning within a learning management system. This session will discuss how SkillSoft plans to enable customers to deliver training to employees when and where they need it. Come learn more about the SkillSoft OLSA and portlet strategies, and embedding learning assets into a variety of enterprise applications, such as portals and intranets, to help learners gain access to resources more efficiently.

Guerilla Retention: Grass Roots Engagement

Despite this rapid growth, the company consistently has higher retention and lower voluntary turnover than others in its industry. This presentation will cover their multi-faceted grass roots approach to engagement, which is its key differentiator in retention strategies. Contact Center Values Results of Online Learning

Retention and results are key success factors for customer contact centers. Turnover and dispersion of key personnel make sustaining knowledge a challenge for these organizations. Leaders must get information applicable to their needs in a timely manner. Home Services for The Home Depot utilizes SkillSoft’s Business Skills Courseware Collection to give “info grabbers” a flexible tool to enhance their learning between traditional learning events. Successful implementation required the learning organization to make changes to successfully deliver 2,120 hours of active learning to 206 users in 2006. Adoption of 67% was realized where users completed all material and scored above 80%.
